I've added some new images of street vendors and tried to analyse which ones stand out or give the best feel of how life is for these hard workers on the street.
One thing is for sure, the 'decisive moment' is an essential part of capturing the best shots. This is not an easy task because street photography is probably the opposite of still life when it comes to timing.
The vendors don't appreciate a foreigner hanging around with a big camera even if permission is asked first. In most of the photographs I have taken (not the ones shown here) the vendors are either looking away or looking down because they don't want to be photographed. It's really a case of trail and error. Some people don't mind being photographed, but a lot of those people will obviously pose and that's not what I'm after. I want to show a candid scene. I believe several of the following images have achieved that.
As in most of the images, I want to show how basic these shops are and how grungy the surrounding can be. This image really gives a feel of the grotty street.
I like the completeness of this image. The carts are lined at 90deg in front of the railing and the umbrella closes the scene from the top.
In this image we can clearly see who the customers are and where they are. I like it because it's far simpler than most of the others.
