I'm not long back from my annual holiday to Scotland to see family and friends. Luckily this year we were blessed with wonderful weather and so my camera was never in its bag. I've posted some miscellaneous images from my trip. A small sample of what I have downloaded and played around with so far.
The first four images were taken at my sister's house. She has some studio lighting and so I asked her if I could give it a try. It's the first time I've taken portraits in a home studio setting or any studio for that matter. I was very happy with the results.
This is my old school. It's ready for demolition but the council have run out of money so it remains as an interesting place to photograph.
I liked the 3D effect of this close that leads out to the back of the flats and the sea, and also the texture of the stones. I did take bracketed shots but this is just a quick development of one exposure.
This is part of an old church on a small island. I saw the balance that would occur between the building and the tree. Plus the contrast.
Just an old three wheeler, but for some reason I am drawn to scrap yards whenever I see one.
This rock formation was at the very top of a Munro (3,000ft+). I thought it looked like a mountain in its self and the textures were very interesting. I've really increased the contrast to bring them out.
This fallen tree trunk offered several opportunities for interesting photographs. The branches in this one really lead the eye into the main trunk of the tree.
Three trees with the contrast lifted to bring out the textures of the bark.
I spotted this scene while driving. The hill was lit up by the sun. Luckily it stayed the same by the time I had walked over to the river and set up the equipment.
Near the top of another mountain. The shadow almost acting like a reflection.
No comment required, but at least I've tried to make it artistic!
Yes, the grass was as green as this. In fact I've desaturated it slightly. I love scenes like this with a path winding it's way to somewhere.
This was a strange scene. I had to examine the metal container closely before realizing what is was. I've added some filters to add to the strange object.
I think I have more images of trees than anything else and here's another interesting one. Dead, but full of stories carved into it's trunk.
I guess the horse thought it was going to receive some food and thats why it looks so happy.
Picture card I hear you say. Yes it is but it had to be taken.
The inside of an old church with only natural lighting. This is one of those situations where you really have to hold your breath.
I asked my wife to pose for me in this spot of sunlight.
